Overall, an engaging and enjoyable visit. Lots to see, some smaller tanks and some impressively big tanks, including the walk through tunnel that seems to be a must see feature of all modern aquaria. Most of our time was spent in the aquarium. It's a minor regret but we've visited rainforests in other museums. Also, we found the lineup for the Rainforest to be longer than we wished to endure so we skipped it. I wasn't and hence we missed out this trip. One thing I do wish I was better informed about was the necessity of getting a ticket for the planetarium. Our visit was on a weekday and, yes, the place if full of school kids many of whom behave like school kids on a field trip. We actually shared our bus with a teacher and his class. The Academy of Sciences was one of the itinerary items for our week in San Francisco and we fond the museum easily accessed by public transit i.e., Muni. We'd be happy to return to enjoy the exhibits that we did *not* get too. All were well done, engaging and informative. The exhibits we saw included the Human Oddesy, the penguins, Color of Life, the Swamp, and the Aquarium. Precipitation totalsEdit California San Francisco, 13.59 inches (34.5 cm) California Oakland, 12.90 inches (32.8 cm) California Santa Barbara, 12.10. We enjoyed the morning spent at the California Academy of Sciences and could have spent even more time there. There is a free water dispenser located by the cutlery area. It was expensive for what it is but that is normal for locations like these as they cash in quite a few $$ to keep the place going. The restaurant food range is very good, so much so that it took us a while to choose a meal. These are state of the art presentations and compared with the UK ones this blows the out of the water! I had heard how amazing they were but didn't know how good they actually are until we visited. ![]() On average, December is the most rainy with 9 days of rain/snow. So without further ado, here are some ideas for what you could do if rain is expected on your big day. However, as we head into the rainy season in the Bay Area, I’ve felt it necessary to throw my 2 cents in. Despite those rains and the ones expected this week. San Francisco has dry periods in June, July, August and September. One thing you’ll notice is that San Francisco isn’t a city that has a lot of indoor or covered options when it comes to a rain plan. I loved the time clock and the aquarium section was a nice touch didn't know that was there until a bit later! What really did it for me were the different planetarium shows. The storms come after downtown San Francisco saw 5.46 inches of rain on New Year’s Eve, the second-wettest day the city has ever seen. ![]() There are pop up demonstrations and exclusive exhibitions and although this was a single visit I am sure these change throughout the year so people continue to return. People tend to rush through and just look at objects and pictures but there is so much more available than that. Take your time and enjoy the science and wonders around you.
